So guys, today we are talking about the Malayalam horror-thriller Dies Irae, which released in 2025 and made huge noise among audiences. The movie is written and directed by Rahul Sadasivan and stars Pranav Mohanlal in the lead. The title Dies Irae actually means Day of Wrath, which already tell you a bit about the dark story feeling in the film.
The story follows Rohan, a young architect from a wealthy background. His life take a messed-up turn after some mysterious and scary paranormal things start happening around him. Everything gets more creepy after a person from his past suddenly dies, and then his life gets filled with horror moments and dangerous secrets. Finally he joins together with a traditional exorcism expert to find out the truth behind those supernatural things. Trust me it gets very intense by the end.
Theatrical release and box office response
The film released in theatres on 31 October 2025, perfect timing for Halloween vibes. It became one of the biggest A-rated Malayalam openers of the year and seen packed theatres across many places. Many audience praised the horror feel and Pranav Mohanlal’s performance also got strong response.
The film did really well in box office, reaching around ₹48 crore in 25 days inside India and nearly ₹83 crore worldwide collection. That’s huge for a Malayalam horror film and people were totally waiting for the OTT launch after that.
OTT Release — When and Where to Watch
Alright, now the main thing everybody waiting to know. Dies Irae is finally set to release on OTT. The movie will start streaming from 5 December 2025, and you can watch it on JioHotstar. So if you missed it in theatre or want to rewatch with friends or family, this is the right time.
The movie will be available in Malayalam and also dubbed in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi, so many more people can enjoy it without worrying about language barrier.
Why the OTT release matters
The OTT release is super important because it brings the film to a much bigger audience. Many people outside Kerala did not got chance to watch it in cinema halls, so now everyone can enjoy from home or wherever they want. Also horror movies are fun to watch at night with lights off, right.
This movie also opens more space for Malayalam cinema to grow pan-India especially in horror genre.
What to expect from Dies Irae
If you planning to watch, you can expect a very strong atmospheric horror experience. The camera work, sound design, music and dark visuals all add to the fear and tension. The film mixes psychological and supernatural horror. There are moments where you literally feel like something is hiding behind you. And yes the suspense builds slowly and nicely.
For people who enjoy serious horror films and deep storytelling, this one is definitely something worth watching.
